EDITORIAL 

Clinical research is an important component in modern health care systems and the collaboration among universities and their teaching hospitals potentiate each institution role, allowing a higher relevance and quality of their clinical studies and publications.

In these instances, the development of a collaboration between the Centro de Estudos de Medicina Baseada na Evidência (CEMBE) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMUL) and the Centro de Investigação em Tecnologias e Sistemas de Informação em Saúde (CINTESIS) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) represents a paradigmatic example of what a XXI century clinical research partnership ought to be. Indeed, through the combination of will and expertise from their researchers it has been already possible to jointly publish papers as well as to teach methodology of this scientific area. This collaboration will soon receive an extra impulse with the establishment of a more formal relationship between CEMBE and CINTESIS, within the Cochrane Collaborating Center Portugal.

Because we feel that it is absolutely necessary to continue the development and consolidation of clinical research in Portugal, we also believe that this new CEMBE/CINTESIS partnership may represent a particularly effective model to allow the creation of better conditions for the improvement of clinical studies and research projects in these two institutions and beyond.
