The Human Brain Project is part of the FET Flagship Programme aims to better understand the human brain, though a unified vision that integrates a single multi-level system.
To reach this goal it proposes to build and transform emerging ICT technologies, aggregating experts from the fields of neuroscience, medicine and computing.
For instance, in medicine, medical informatics can identify biological signatures of brain disease, allowing diagnosis at an early stage, before the disease has done irreversible damage, and enabling personalised treatment, adapted to the needs of individual patients. Better diagnosis, combined with disease and drug simulation, can accelerate the discovery of new treatments, speeding up and drastically lowering the cost of drug discovery.
In addition, this large-scale action also requires expertise from areas such as cognitive sciences, education and ethics, which proves to be an excellent opportunity for CINTESIS researchers.
