| PDICSS is granted funding from FCT PhD Programmes
The call for FCT PhD Programmes aimed to evaluate and select the most competitive research-based proposals.
In the 2013 call, CINTESIS participated in two applications: the doctoral programme in Clinical and Health Services Research (PDICSS) and the doctoral programme in Gerontology and Geriatrics (PDGG). However, in spite the fact the international panel of experts reviewed both programmes with a high score, only PDICSS was granted funding for 12 PhD scholarships, in 4 student cohorts.
In fact, a total of 64 applications (2012 and 2013 calls) were submitted in the Life and Health Sciences domain, of which 20 were recommended for funding. The University of Porto, participates in 4 funded PhD Programmes, while for instance, the Universities based in the Lisbon region participate in 19 funded programmes (UL - 7, UNL - 8, ISPA - 2, UTL - 2).
Nonetheless, PDICSS was one of the few funded programmes proposed by Medical Faculties (1 out of 3) and the only proposed by FMUP. This grant is not only a recognition of scientific and pedagogical excellence but, most of all, a way to help promote clinical and health service research.
As such, all the PDICSS’s faculty, supervisors and students should be congratulated for all their hard work, especially considering the rather unfair review of the 2012’ call.
