In March 2012, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Portuguese Government and the Donor States (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) of the European Financial Mechanism (MFEEE), which, among others, established the programmatic areas within EEA Grants 2009-2014.
EEA Grants 2009-2014 has a net budget of € 53.603.750 (20% for health), and aims to contribute in a decisive way to achieve the following two main goals:
- The reduction of social and economic disparities within the European Economic Area;
- Strengthen bilateral relations between the Donor States (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and the beneficiary states, aiming at boost long term cooperation, with special incidence in the identified programmatic areas
One of the program areas defined by EEA Grants 2009-2014 is related to Human and Social Development, under which Public Health Initiatives falls. The Program Operator of Public Health Initiatives is Administração Central do Sistema de Saúde, IP (ACSS).
The Public Health Initiatives program will accept proposals until the 30th of April and has a global budget of 11,7 million euros, 85% covered by MFEEE and 15% covered by the State of Portugal. 10,6 million euros will be applied to improve the sustainability of the National Health Service, and will focus on:
- Reducing inequalities between user groups, in the domain of nutrition;
- Improving mental health services;
- Improving and preventing treatment of communicable diseases;
- Improving national registries health information systems.
This call is an excellent opportunity for CINTESIS researchers to submit proposals as it falls well within several of our core areas.
