Are you a Unique Researcher?
If you answered, "Yes" to the previous question you probably have been recently face-to-face with the ORCiD registry. Researchers frequently find themselves unable to clearly identify and distinguish the scientific outcomes that are produced, either by themselves or by others. How often have you tried to find out if that paper was really published by that author only to find that it was written by someone with the same/similar name? Well, the same goes for other researchers, science managers and funding agencies. ORCiD tries to solve the name ambiguity in science, by creating a central registry of unique identifiers for individual researchers. You are able to add professional information and link to your other identifiers, such as Scopus, ResearcherID, LinkedIn or even personal websites. FCT, the main Portuguese funding agency, has been working closely with ORCiD (2013 Bibliometric Study) and recently added its funding information. As a result, Portuguese researchers are now able to link the information related with the grants they received not only from the FCT, but also from other funding agencies, such as NIH or the Wellcome Trust. Although, at this moment, there is no deadline for this integration, CINTESIS researchers are kindly invited to update their ORCiD registry with Scopus publications, ResearcherID (WoS publications) and grants/funding.
