CINTESIS supported spin-off's
A University spin-off is a business founded by researchers to enhance the results of their own research activity and scientific knowledge, in which a University may be a partner. Researchers, as partners, share the profits and are also involved in the licensing of the Intelectual Property (IP) rights.
From the legal viewpoint, a spin-off is no different from an ordinary business enterprise.
The particularity of spin-offs lies in in the fact that they are promoted, created and developed by one or more people who have a close relationship with the research world and use the know-how developed within research organisations in their business activity.
The Portuguese National Science Foundation (FCT), for quite some time now, has responded to the challenges presented by the European Commission to promote the transference of academic knowledge to the industry, which had a spillover effect in the academic assessment of researchers.
CINTESIS, due to its, inherent mission and vision, has always promoted this product/service oriented research and, as a result, some spin-offs have been created.
These spin-offs are able not only to make the best of their seminal research products but also to develop new, innovative solutions.
